It’s 5:47 am, and we are sitting on a little plane, waiting for it to send us to Atlanta. From Atlanta, we will head to Belize City. We’re still in Springfield, MO, and already, my world has expanded. Waking up at 2:30 am to go adventuring, taking off my shoes and lifting my arms above my head for TSA, learning how to buckle my seatbelt on the plane… So many new experiences, already, and I know it’s only the tiniest taste of the wonders that await us.

We are going to a school in Belize to spend time with kids who are 12-15 years old. We have spent a lot of time over the past couple months developing a Bible study, sports, and activities to do with the students. None of us knows exactly what to expect, but we are so eager to build relationships with these young adults and to share with them in the community of the saints.

6:09 am and we are in the air! What an unbelievable feeling, soaring through the clouds and watching a dark world sleep beneath us. I am already blown away by what a big, incredible world we live in, and I know that each bit of newness we encounter will further reveal to us the beauty of the earth and the ingenuity of human creativity. I am so excited to immerse myself in this new culture and learn what it has to teach me. We are going to Belize to serve and teach, but I suspect we might do an incredible amount of learning along the way.
I think I speak for the entire team when I say that the awe and the excitement has only just begun to hit us. We are leaving behind us the busyness of school and work for a short week and walking into a foreign country with some Bibles, soccer balls, and lots and lots of hard candy. After all the preparation we have done, it is unbelievable that we are actually on our way. I pray that in some small way, we will share in joy and hope and fellowship with these school-children in Belize. I can’t wait to meet them.
